Better Life Lab Multimedia Reporting Grants

The Better Life Lab at New America offers reporting grants for journalists and storytellers producing solutions-focused stories on the care crisis—from child care to disability, elder, and end-of-life care. Grants support multimedia work that highlights innovations, explores scalable models, and envisions a more equitable care system. Projects may be print, audio, visual, or multimedia, and applicants from underrepresented perspectives are encouraged.

Focus Areas

  • Innovations in Child Care (supported by the Bainum Family Foundation and others)

  • Investing in Care Infrastructure across the lifespan

  • Solutions-oriented reporting that demonstrates how care impacts families, communities, and the economy

Award Details

  • Grants are commissioned on a rolling basis beginning November 2025

  • Selected journalists join the Better Life Lab reporting cohort and receive editorial support and placement assistance

Eligibility

  • Open to new and experienced journalists across all mediums

  • Seeking stories with strong narrative or multimedia elements

  • Projects should explore innovations, future possibilities, and potential for scaling
