David Dietz Fellowship

Established in 2011 for the late David Dietz, an award-winning journalist and a past president of IRE. The fellowship supports early career journalists who have a demonstrated interest in financial investigative reporting.

Who is eligible?

Journalists and independent journalists with less than 10 years’ professional experience, who have a financial need for assistance, and examples of financial investigative journalism work. Students are not eligible. 

What does the fellowship provide?

For attending the conference in-person, the fellowship includes:

  • One-year IRE membership/renewal ($70 value)
  • Complimentary conference registration included
  • Four hotel nights ($1,168 value)
  • Travel stipend ($500)

For attending the conference virtually, the fellowship includes:

  • One-year IRE membership/renewal ($70 value)
  • Complimentary conference registration included

Required application materials:

  • LinkedIn page or link to resume
  • Links to two clips showcasing financial investigative work
  • Statement on financial need
  • Letter of support from supervisor/appropriate person to attend the conference. The letter should include why you are deserving of a scholarship to receive this training.
