Solutions Journalism Revenue Accelerator

The Solutions Journalism Network (SJN), in partnership with Blue Engine Collaborative, is launching the Solutions Journalism Revenue Accelerator to help news organizations grow revenue through subscriptions, membership, and/or individual donations tied to solutions journalism. This is one of four accelerators SJN and Blue Engine will lead in 2025–2026, each focusing on a different revenue stream.

Program Goals

  • Show how solutions journalism can motivate audiences to provide financial support.

  • Foster collaboration across editorial and business teams to embed long-term innovation.

  • Support and elevate journalists as leaders, sharing insights with peers and the industry.

What Participants Receive

  • Nine months of no-cost support combining solutions journalism training and revenue strategies.

  • 1:1 coaching and group training from SJN and Blue Engine experts.

  • Travel support (airfare, hotel, meals) for a two-day kickoff meeting.

  • Promotion of your work through global journalism networks.

  • Opportunity to receive $10,000 to support your efforts.

  • Staff eligibility to become certified Solutions Journalism trainers.

Eligibility

  • Open to news organizations committed to making solutions journalism a core part of their mission (not an add-on).

  • Proposed projects should include content such as series, packages, or beats addressing community challenges — potentially supported by events, newsletters, or other products.

  • Teams must demonstrate organizational buy-in and alignment with consumer revenue goals
