Ida B. Wells Society Investigative Reporting Fellowship

The Ida B. Wells Society has launched its 2025 Investigative Reporting Fellowship, an intensive, no-cost training program designed to sharpen the investigative skills of working journalists.

About the Fellowship

  • Up to 12 fellowships awarded.
  • Fellows will meet monthly in Atlanta (February–July 2025) for weeklong sessions.
  • Training topics include:
    • Investigative Reporting Mindset
    • Data Journalism
    • Process & Development
    • Interviewing & Writing for Investigations
  • Participants will develop and produce projects for publication in their own newsrooms.
  • Freelancers are welcome to apply with newsroom support.

Eligibility

  • 3–5 years of professional reporting experience required.
  • Open to U.S.-based journalists in print, broadcast, online, or multimedia.
  • Applicants must provide:
    • Resume and work samples.
    • Project pitch.
    • Letters of support from employers (or publishing agreement for freelancers).
  • Must commit to attending four weeklong training sessions in Atlanta (approx. 16–24 total days including travel).
