USC Annenberg California Fellowship

Each year, USC Annenberg offers an all-expenses-paid Fellowship for California-based journalists and journalists based elsewhere who contribute primarily to California news outlets. The 2022 California Fellowship will be held April 18-22, 2022. The fellowship programs include mentorship, a reporting stipend, and an intensive week of training that includes inspiring trips out in the field and interactive sessions with some of the nation’s most sought-after journalists, policymakers, community health leaders and healthcare experts. Each Fellow received a $2,000 grant to assist with the costs of reporting an ambitious Fellowship project on a California health issue, as well as six months of mentoring by a Senior Fellow.

Fellows also are eligible to apply for five months of professional mentorship in engaged journalism and $1,000-$2,000 to support those creative efforts.

Preference is given to:

  • Applicants who have a minimum of three years of professional journalism experience
